Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D

Today Star Wars Episode 1: the Phantom Menace is released into theaters nationwide. Its the first of the franchise to be converted into stereoscopic 3d. Prime Focus did most of the conversion work here in Los Angeles, Ca.

I, along with about 120 other artists, worked for about 6 months converting and compositing the film. I’m a Star Wars fan and it was a great experience working on this franchise.

The Art of Stereoscopics
George Lucas believes in the artistry of film making and he hand selected our team based off of a series of tests we submitted. Here he is talking about why he went in the direction he did.

Why convert Star Wars in the first place?

Well, George Lucas believes in 3d as a tool for film makers, like color is to black and white. Here he is talking about why he even decided to convert Star Wars in the first place.

Working on this film took a lot of hours, as well as many many dailies sessions! I met amazing artists and life long friends on this show. I will miss all of the Star Wars mythology arguments, Village Pizza, and The Porchita.
